As we enter this season of thanksgiving, I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude for each of you. Your prayers, encouragement, support and patience throughout my recovery journey have been an incredible blessing.

Recovery Journey ❤️🩹
Many of you have now been following along as I’ve navigated multiple surgeries following an injury from 2022. November 11, 2025 marks three years since that injury. Currently, I’ve been working with Ivy Rehab’s Occupational and Physical Therapists to regain range of motion, mobility and strength.

Occupational Therapist dressed as Frida Kahlo. Kim and I have been working together for a minute. I’m grateful to have someone in my corner who genuinely cares about my recovery. Kim has been a constant voice of encouragement, helping me improve my physical health and keep pushing when I wanted to give up advocating for proper healthcare. If you ever need an OT, I definitely recommend her.
Building During the “Off Season” 🧱
As entrepreneurs and small business owners, we wear so many hats, and at times we can forget how important our health is - mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual. Without prioritizing this, you can easily burnout. Although you might be able to pull it off for a bit and get things “done,” this burnout might end up bleeding into other areas of your life.
So I encourage you to take time to be present with yourself and process things that have taken place. Yes, I know - you’re busy. But one of the things my older sister told me once was: “Lyan, we will always be busy and say to ourselves we don’t have time, but in reality we have to make time. If you don’t make time for it now, you never will. You think you are busy or don’t have time now? Life will only get busier.”
I’m learning that not every season is about rapid growth. Sometimes the most important work happens in seasons of rest and restoration. Use slower periods to:
• Breathe
• Refine your vision and values
• Strengthen your foundation
• Plan strategically for the future
• Rest and recharge for what’s ahead
• Deepen relationships with existing clients and the community

Even in seasons of recovery and restoration, God continues to open doors and affirm the work we’re building together. I’m honored and deeply grateful to share that Lyan’s Sweets & More was selected as a recipient of the FY26 Business Development Grant presented by United Way of Greater Charlottesville and the Minority Business Alliance (MBA) of the Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce at the MBA Gala.
This recognition is not just about KINGDOM’S LLC - it’s about what we’re building together as a community for the generations to come. It’s proof that even when life hands us unexpected challenges, when we remain faithful to our purpose and committed to serving others with excellence, doors continue to open.
